Happy International Translation Day!
Many of us are asking important questions about how to best put our skills to work in an increasingly complex and fast-paced world. There are as many right answers to these questions as there are people in the world (or should I say, possible translations for a text - if you're a translator, you get it 😄).
I think one of the most overlooked aspects of our profession is the time we spend thinking and searching, racking our brains or exploring web pages on our quest for "le mot juste": the perfect turn of phrase. It's all one big puzzle and boy, do we love puzzles! Yes, we are a tenacious bunch: it's par for the course.
We're so used to looking for answers that perhaps we're more intrigued than most by the questions. Give ten translators the same text and you'll end up with ten different yet equally valid renditions. Same goes for the answers to those important, life-changing questions.
The world is constantly changing and evolving, and so are we, as a species and as a community. Whatever you're doing today, make it count, and enjoy the ride!
