We’d like to work with you but your quote is too high for our budget. What can be done?

Q?

Some of our employees are bilingual. Why should I use a professional translation service?

A.

Companies hire people to perform specific tasks and carry out roles in line with their qualifications and experience. Having an employee who is not a professional translator do translations is risky. The quality of the translation may not be very good, and they may spend a lot of time that they could have spent doing their actual job. This represents a hidden cost for the company that lower its overall productivity.

Q?

I had a bad experience with another translation agency. Why should I trust you?

A.

There are many factors to consider. It's always possible to find a cheaper service. What you need to ask yourself is whether saving a little now may lead to more costs later. Many companies with bad translations that they ask us to fix by either proofreading or retranslating the texts. Professional translation quality comes at a certain price: you get what you pay for. Companies offering low-cost translation services are often wrought with disappointing results and dubious practices. Your decision will have future consequences and you don't want to regret your choices. VOVF builds long-term relationships with clients. We are a French translation agency based in France and we are proud to pay our taxes in France.

Q?

What are your turnaround times?

A.

Q?

How do you count the number of words in a document?

A.

First of all, VOVF analyses the document in detail by taking into account the client’s specific instructions on the content. We then count the number of words to be translated in the source text, often using specialised software.

Q?

What pricing criteria do you use for your quotes?

A.

VOVF takes into account many factors before providing a translation quote. This is why it is almost impossible to provide rates without fully analysing your translation project. First, VOVF counts the number of source words, or the number of words in the document to be translated. This is the starting point for any translation quote. Then we factor in any other criteria before finalising the translation quote, such as linguistic combinations, deadlines, how urgent the translation is, text volume, how technical it is, etc.

Q?

Why does your team consist only of native translators?

A.

First of all, it is important to understand what native translators are. Native translators are translators who translate only into their mother tongue. Translation is a difficult task; a translator translates the meaning of a text, not the words, and for this they need to be aware of all the nuances and subtleties of the target language. This is only possible when a translator works into their mother tongue. This is a sure-fire way to avoid clumsiness and inaccuracy that are recurrent in translations carried out by non-native translators. This is the first criterion for quality.

Q?

What does ‘target language’ mean?

A.

The target language is the language into which the document will be translated.

Q?

What does ‘source language’ mean?

A.

The source language is the language of the document to be translated. This document is also called the source document.

Q?

Does being bilingual qualify someone to become a translator?

A.

No. Being bilingual isn’t enough to be a professional translator. Why? Because you don’t just become a professional translator overnight. Being a professional translator requires specific skills that takes years of training and experience to develop and perfect techniques. A professional translator has excellent writing skills in the target language, which is the translator’s native language and the one they translate into.

Q?

Why should I use a professional translation service?

A.

Since you are a professional in your area of expertise, how you communicate is important; it could make or break your brand image. You’ve invested time and money to market yourself and present the right image and message; why not do the same when translating them? It is important to capitalise on committed agencies to maximise your communication globally. Consequently, translation will play a major role representing your brand in another culture as it is your medium of communication in a foreign language. To succeed at this, it is important to entrust your translations to a professional translation agency who, in addition to being the best service provider, will also be a business partner.

Not using the services of a professional translation agency can negatively affect your company's reputation and brand image. The message that you are trying to convey can effectively become lost in translation.

Q?

How do I choose a translation agency?

A.

There are many translation agencies on the market, which makes it difficult to choose the right translation agency for you. The best advice we can give you is to talk to someone at the agency and not hesitate to ask questions. If you feel the agency knows what they are doing and masters the linguistic combinations you require, then that’s the right agency for you. Additionally, they must always be willing to communicate! If the agency does not meet either of these two criteria, it’s time to look for another agency. Next, take a look at their references, their clients and samples of work they have carried out in your field.

Our experts at VOVF will listen to all your needs and provide tailor-made solutions. Many companies have already chosen VOVF for the quality of its translation services and references. There are many reasons why you, too, should choose VOVF.
